Nearly £1 million worth of cocaine was discovered hidden within an electric wheelchair at Manchester Airport following a flight from Barbados.
The Border Force officials examined the wheelchair and discovered that it had 11 packets inside, with a total weight of 12 kilograms (26.4 pounds) on Sunday, March 30th.
The Portuguese national Casimiro De Lemos Francisco, aged 56, has been accused of drug trafficking and was held in custody following a court appearance at Salford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) issued images of tan parcels, secured with adhesive tape, concealed within the seat and backrest of the chair.
Charles Lee, a senior investigating officer for NCA, stated: "This concealment demonstrates the clever tactics employed by criminal organizations to traffic cocaine."
Mr. De Lemos Francisco is scheduled to appear at Manchester Crown Court on May 6th.
