President William Ruto has justified the decision to dismiss former Public Service CS Justin Muturi as part of the recent Cabinet changes.
During a press roundtable held at Sagana State Lodge on Monday, Ruto alleged that when Muturi was serving as the Attorney General, he found it difficult to deliver effectively.
When he appointed Muturi as the Attorney General, Muturi clarified that he might struggle to perform effectively because he hadn't practiced law extensively since his time as a magistrate, Member of Parliament, and Speaker.
"He mentioned that he could become overwhelmed. I felt responsible since I had convinced him, but eventually, I noticed that he indeed became overwhelmed. That’s why I chose to make changes for his sake and offered him the position of Cabinet Secretary," Ruto stated.
"During this time, he would skip attending Cabinet meetings, even though he was a minister. He was essentially on strike," Ruto questioned.
Ruto mentioned that he is someone who supports offering individuals a second opportunity, noting that many people tend to prove themselves worthy when granted another chance.
“I am someone who believes in giving second chances. Despite his challenges as Attorney General, Muturi struggled at times. However, being my friend, we collaborated closely, campaigning together. This led me to offer him another opportunity,” the President stated.
I offered my close friend Muturi another opportunity, yet he essentially rejected it himself. Tell me, what would you have me do? I provide a second chance only for him to proceed with his own agenda. This isn’t the conclusion of everything; considering his substantial pension from his time as a previous speaker, he won’t face many hardships.
