The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has named Dr. Fillemon Nangolo as the new leader of its Lüderitz Campus, marking the beginning of an era of expansion and progress for the university.
The university stated that Nangolo comes with an impressive array of experience in academics, research, and industry to his new position, which will help guide the Lüderitz Campus towards greater innovation and academic distinction.
Significant progress is anticipated at the campus, notably in crucial sectors like renewable energy, marine systems, and industrial partnerships, during his tenure. His appointment signals an exhilarating new era for NUST’s Lüderitz Campus and its role in local growth.
Over his lengthy 18-year career, he has occupied significant roles at two major institutions: NUST and the University of Namibia (UNAM). Serving as the previous Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at UNAM, he has developed a profound insight into academia.
His global speaking engagements at J. E. Purkyne University in the Czech Republic, combined with his practical knowledge acquired at Chart Ferox, Inc., provide him with a distinctive viewpoint on merging academic research with practical industry applications.
His area of expertise encompasses marine ecosystems, sustainable energy sources, water management strategies, and efficient industrial operations. Key achievements feature his involvement in developing solar-driven desalination facilities, establishing proactive upkeep protocols for oceanic machinery, as well as spearheading the Benguela Collective Wind Energy Pilot Project.
Vision for Lüderitz Campus
"I feel privileged to head the Lüderitz Campus during this period when the area is becoming a significant contributor to Namibia’s economy. My priority will be enhancing industrial collaborations, promoting research initiatives, and making sure our students acquire skills that prepare them for the future," he stated.
In his new capacity, Dr. Nangolo aims to establish the Lüderitz Campus as a center for innovation, focusing specifically on the Blue Economy, renewable energy, and logistics. His vision complements NUST’s overarching objectives of promoting regional growth and providing students with the competencies needed to propel Namibia’s economy forward.
Recently, NUST introduced a specific scholarship program designed for students who will be studying crucial subjects at both the Lüderitz and Eenhana campuses. Since the beginning of this term, more than 30 students have joined through this initiative, demonstrating its considerable influence early on.
"I urge all parties involved to work together with us as we establish a center for innovation and sustainable growth in Lüderitz," concluded Nangolo.
