Bangkok [Thailand], March 31 (ANI): Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra sincerely thanked global leaders for their expressions of sympathy and backing after the recent earthquake in Thailand.
In a tweet posted on Monday, she expressed thanks on behalf of the Thai government and its citizens, stating, "On behalf of the Government and the people of Thailand, I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to global leaders for sending their condolences, supportive messages, and expressions of concern about the earthquake situation in our country. We are profoundly moved by everyone who has offered assistance and shown their unity and compassion."
Prime Minister Shinawatra additionally stated that the conditions have mostly normalized, with search and rescue efforts still ongoing at specific locations. She mentioned that various agencies are continuously monitoring the circumstances and stand prepared to offer additional support as needed.
"I would like to notify you that things have mostly gone back to normal. The regions impacted by the quake were confined to specific locations where search and rescue operations persisted. Thai authorities continue to stay vigilant in monitoring the circumstances and are prepared to offer additional support to those requiring aid," stated Shinawatra.
She likewise prayed for Myanmar, which was heavily affected by the earthquake, and reiterated her steadfast commitment to supporting disaster relief initiatives.
"My thoughts and prayers also go out to our close neighbour Myanmar, also severely affected by the devastating earthquake. I wish to emphasise Thailand's unwavering support for Myanmar's disaster relief efforts and the rebuilding of affected communities," she added.
In the meantime, search and rescue operations are ongoing in Bangkok after an earthquake hit the area.
More than three days since a severe 7.7-magnitude quake hit Myanmar, rescuers continue their search for survivors. The temblor brought down structures not only within the country but also reached as far as Thailand’s main city, Bangkok, and caused shaking in neighboring parts of China, according to CNN reports.
Over 2,000 individuals have been confirmed deceased in Myanmar due to the recent earthquake, which also led to extensive infrastructure destruction as per reports from CNN referencing local officials.
The earthquake’s focal point was detected in Myanmar's central Sagaing area, close to the erstwhile imperial city of Mandalay, which houses approximately 1.5 million inhabitants along with numerous ancient temple sites and palaces, according to reports from CNN. (ANI)
