George Turnah, the Zonal Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in South-South and organizer of the Bayelsa Mega Rally supporting President Bola Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike, has clarified why Bayelsa serves as an excellent location to honor both figures.
Turnah stated that the scheduled rally organized by the New Associate group does not signify support for President Tinubu's bid for a second term.
It is said that the New Associate group belongs to the PDP faction and remains faithful to the previous governor.
On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, during an appearance on Arise Television's 'The Morning Show,' the PDM representative mentioned that besides organizing a rally, they intend to express their gratitude and honor Wike along with President Tinubu for including several prominent individuals from Bayelsa State in their cabinet.
"Why are we holding the rally in Bayelsa? As a grassroots organization, The New Associate aims to launch the Bayelsa State chapter. Additionally, we plan to organize this gathering to express gratitude towards Mr. President for appointing several distinguished natives of Bayelsa State who have been effective and successful in their roles," he clarified.
Remember that Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State recently cautioned them about the group's strategy To arrange a rally or have Wike visit his state.
In light of the recent political turmoil in neighboring Rivers State, the governor stated that the proposed rally is an attempt by a 'rogue PDP member' to disturb the stability within his state.
As you know, we face threats from our neighboring state. The political turmoil there poses a risk to us, and we won’t let what’s occurring there affect Bayelsa State.
"Any attempt to import the Rivers State political crisis into Bayelsa will be resisted. I urge security commanders in the state to be on the alert. Parents and traditional rulers should discourage their wards and children from being used by unscrupulous elements to cause trouble in the state," Governor Diri warned.
Despite the governor's warning, Turnah said the rally would take place in the state but not on any Bayelsa State Government property.
