Joshi Spotlights India’s Soaring Growth in Renewable Energy

New Delhi [ India On April 1 (ANI reported), Union Minister Pralhad Joshi spoke at a press briefing on Tuesday and clarified India ' advancement within the renewable energy industry during the last twelve months.

He stated that India India's renewable energy sector has witnessed substantial expansion and contributed an additional 25 gigawatts by the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2025. According to Joshi, this marks a 35 percent rise from the preceding year.

"The renewable energy sector has made tremendous progress in the last year. India In the fiscal year 2024-25, the country’s renewable energy sector witnessed the largest capacity expansion ever with the installation of 25 gigawatts. Compared to the previous year, which saw installations totaling nearly 18.57 gigawatts, this represents an increase of approximately 35% by the end of March 31, 2025. Pralhad Joshi stated at his press briefing.

Pralhad Joshi further highlighted that India has witnessed remarkable growth of 38 percent in solar energy, increasing capacity from 15 GW to 21 GW during the last fiscal year. Additionally, he mentioned that India Has surpassed the 100 GW threshold in solar power capacity this year.

"Renewable energy in solar, last year it was 15 gigawatts which has increased to 21 gigawatts this time. It is an increase of 38 per cent, the figure is tentative and can grow further. This year we crossed the 100 gigawatt mark in the solar energy and we are currently standing on 103 gigawatts," Joshi said.

Furthermore, he informed that the Union Government Has made significant progress towards reducing carbon emissions by requiring the adoption of BioCNG in both the transportation industry and residential homes.

At the beginning of Fiscal Year 26, a major move has been made towards reducing carbon emissions within both the transport industry and residential homes through the mandatory adoption of BioCNG. This involves mixing compressed biogas with CNG for vehicles and PNG for household use. Starting April 1, 2025, this mandate will require a blend containing one percent BioCNG, which will gradually increase up to five percent by fiscal year 2028-29 as stated by Joshi. (ANI)
