The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has refuted claims circulating on social media stating that its president, Rev. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr., endorsed a fake and altered document alleging that the LCC had condemned President Joseph Boakai for inadequate governance during the rescue operation.
Over the weekend, a statement attributed to LCC president Rev. Reeves accused President Boakai of purchasing luxurious cars worth 400k, something he criticized, urging the 80-year-old Liberian Leader to lead by example.
Nevertheless, LCC issued a statement refuting any connection to the post shared on social media, characterizing it as "inaccurate, deceptive, and an effort to undermine the ethical standing of the Church."
The LCC, which had previously been accused in an alternate document of temporarily removing its president from office for three months due to criticism of Boakai, stressed that the organization never issued such a statement. They particularly noted that this alleged statement lacked their official stamp as well as genuine autographs from both the president or the general secretary.
The statement read, "This publication is consideredfake news, deceptive, malicious, and does not reflect theofficial stance of the council in any manner."
The statement strongly denounced the act of pretending to be Reverend Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr., and cautioned those behind this to stop at once or else confront repercussions. Currently, an inquiry is being conducted to uncover and reveal the identities of the people implicated.
Consequently, the Council restated its dedication to the organization’s purpose and principles as an unwavering champion for change, ensuring this stance remained intact, and persisted in striving for the betterment of Liberian citizens.
The Council stressed that the administration must acknowledge that this misleading information is deliberately spread by people who do not prioritize the nation's welfare.
"The LCC continues to be committed to tackling social problems and giving a platform to those who are unheard, but it clearly denounces and condemns any attempts to mimic or distort its official stances," the statement read.
The LCC appealed to the public to come forward with any reports of deceptive practices and affirmed its commitment to taking all concerns very seriously, maintaining an openness to supplying precise details as needed.
