Omokri Reveals: Peter Obi Abandoned Okupe During His Battle With Cancer

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

In a harsh critique, ex-presidential assistant Reno Omokri has lambasted Peter Obi for alleged hypocrisy regarding his response to the passing of Dr. Doyin Okupe.

On X (previously known as Twitter), Omokri claimed that Obi entirely left Okupe behind when he was fighting cancer, even though he had received consistent backing from him before.

"When Doyin Okupe had cancer, you deserted him. He confided in me nearly in tears and told me everything you did to him," Omokri wrote.

He went on to assert that even though Peter Obi appeared publicly supportive, he failed to provide financial or emotional assistance to Okupe when faced with a health crisis as the ex-governor of Anambra State.

You deceived everyone into believing you assisted him. The truth is, you weren’t even communicating with him," he went on. "When he came back from Israel during the outbreak of the Gaza conflict, you happened to be on the same flight. You passed by him without so much as saying hello. His spouse can confirm this.

Omokri further disclosed that Okupe had to manage on his own, liquidating assets to settle medical costs as friends came together to gather financial support.

Dr. Okupe invested all his funds into maintaining his health. To cover his medical expenses, he liquidated his assets. His friends rallied together and managed to raise millions for him. I reached out to several people who had never previously come forward, and each of them contributed significantly to help Dr. Okupe. However, you didn’t contribute at all.

He further asserted possessing documented proof of Okupe’s discontent towards Obi, indicating that the deceased political figure lamented his choice to back him.

“I have Dr. Okupe’s words recorded in documentary form, stating what you did to him when he was at his worst. And in his own words, supporting you was his greatest ‘error of judgment.'”

Omokri urged the media to confirm his statements directly with Okupe’s family and challenged Obi to refute these allegations.

“If Peter Obi ever denies this, he should be reminded that I do not speak without evidence.”
