Radda Vows to Protect Katsina and the Daura Emirates' Heritage

KATSINA Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has expressed his dedication to safeguarding the cultural legacy and honor of the state’s emirates.

During the annual Hawan Magajiya Festival celebrated in Daura Emirate on Monday, Governor Radda issued this statement.

Addressing an esteemed gathering that comprised ambassadors from ten nations, Radda highlighted the historical importance of Daura as Nigeria’s premier emirate and a crucial element of the country’s cultural heritage.

"Daura’s tale mirrors Nigeria’s narrative. The historic ramparts, lively celebrations, and the insights of its inhabitants reaffirm our identity. During the gathering for Hawan Magajiya, let us bear in mind that culture embodies the essence of advancement," said the Governor.

Radda, committed to safeguarding the emirate’s heritage, stated, "My pledge is clear: we will persist in our efforts to uphold this legacy. Together, we will stand firm in defending the honor of our emirates, fostering our traditions, and guaranteeing that our advancements endure. There shall be no retreat; united, we will become even more resilient."

The Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration between leaders and citizens, stating, "Peace does not occur randomly. It arises when leaders govern justly and when the populace stands alongside these leaders. Therefore, I implore you, my fellow countrymen—to back your leaders. Offer prayers for them. And to all those in leadership roles, let me urge this: Lead with reverence for God and empathy towards our people. This is how we achieve enduring peace."

Governor Radda, however, acknowledged the role of the Emir of Daura, HRH Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk in preserving the emirate’s heritage, “Your unwavering dedication to preserving our heritage inspires us all. You are a custodian of peace, a bridge between our past and future,”.

For the esteemed international attendees who attended this event, Governor Radda said, "We feel deeply honored by your presence here today. Having traveled great distances to join us following the holy month of Ramadan—coming together to rejoice, honor our customs, and remain steadfast as allies—we consider you all part of our kin in Katsina. Today, each one of you becomes an integral member of our family."

On his part, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk acknowledged the cheers and homage from the 22 district heads and traditional title holders.

Speaking during the fiesta, Finland Ambassador to Nigeria, Sandra Selin described the cultural show as being truly impressive and beautifully organized. He further extended gratitude to Governor Radda for his exceptional hospitality and the opportunity to learn directly from the state’s cultural heritage.

Similarly, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, HE Yanko Yornadov said, “Our impressions of Katsina State are overwhelmingly positive. It brings me great joy that so many of my colleagues have joined me here to experience the Daura cultural festival– a vibrant celebration of this region’s rich heritage.

"We've seen directly the prosperity mentioned by Governor Radda in his speech, and we have been profoundly touched by the exceptional hospitality extended to us by Katsina State," noted Yornadov.

The event attracted dignitaries including Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, Chief of Staff to the Governor Alhaji AbdulKadir Mamman Nasir, Secretary to the State Government Hon. Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Members of the State Executive Council and ambassadors from Bulgaria, Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, Ireland, Poland and the European Union including their spouses.
